Day 1 Reflection
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
Looking at the pedagogy of Manaiakalani: Learn, Create and Share, I learnt that the Manaiakalani Programme is not only achieving improved educational results, but also realising the potential for greatly enhanced employment and life outcomes for our students.
Being at a school where we started the 1:1 journey this year, I do feel that I'm privileged to get a chance to learn alongside my students as I am having in-class support with Maria Krausse and I have learnt a lot of things which now I can teach my students.
This programme will help my learners and their whanau, and enable them to access their learning anywhere, anytime and at any pace. They will support the parents to buy a personal digital device for each learner and providing wireless internet access at home and school. During Covid-19, it was very difficult to communicate with the students as only 1/3 of my class had access to internet so through Manaiakalani I am confident that in the near future all my students will have a device to work at home with.
The Manaiakalani story is very powerful and liberating. I also learnt that the Manaiakalani Education Trust was formed in 2011 to ensure the schools delivering the Manaiakalani programme have the resources they need to make the most of the opportunities available through digital technologies.
I learnt that Manaiakalani is the name of a star line, translated "The Hook from Heaven". It’s also a perfect metaphor for our journey of discovery using digital learning tools as a hook and a guide to deliver the knowledge our children need to be successful citizens of the 21st century.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
As a professional, to improve my confidence and capability, I learnt the importance of organising the folders in my drive (store, locate, share, collaborate). I also learnt that when creating a new Google Doc how to add a title and heading to the documents. I also learnt how to separate the documents into paragraphs giving them a title, changing the font and colour of the title and how to insert a table of contents into a google doc. I am more confident in using the voice typing from the tools and recording the story. From now onwards I'll be using google docs when I'll be recording the staff minutes or our levels minutes using these tools.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
Voice typing was one thing that I would love to use with my learners since I have some hesitant writers in my class so this will help them in their story writing. This would also help the other learners in class to write a story using the Google Docs.
I would also love to use Google Docs with my learners to create a poster just like the one I created today.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
To improve my confidence and capability in my personal life, I learnt the importance of organising the folders in my drive (store, locate, share, collaborate). While doing my assignments in future I would be confident in using the Google Docs (giving my document a table of confident, title, headings, etc).
