Day 8 Reflection
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
This week we focussed on the Manaiakalani kaupapa of Empowerment which is about the advancing of Rangatiratanga (taking back control of our own lives). Digital technology assist the making of connections by enabling students to enter and explore new learning environments, overcoming barriers of distance and time.
The greatest joy comes from empowering the students to discover the treasure that lies within them. The four aspects of kaupapa (connected, ubiquitous, visible and empowered) are like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle as they are interconnected to each other.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
The biggest learning for today was the importance of giving the power to the students so that they become the designers of their own future. It is important that students have opportunities to be innovative designers and creators of digital solutions. As shifting to Digital Curriculum, when introducing Computational Thinking we can use a variety of plugged and unplugged activities.
Shama Mihi Maker by cool7 / Full screen / Remix in Gamefroot
Gamefroot was an awesome resource to use. Making Mihi would be a great way to start Term 1 where the students have to make their own Pepeha. Since my students have already created their Pepeha, Gamefroot would be a fun way to learn coding. I would like to try coding and programming with my students using minecraft as they enjoy minecraft. I also tried a bit of scratch so might try it out with my students.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
The blogging tip was really great. The importance of empowerment and having the choice of making decisions would be helpful in the personal life.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
This week we focussed on Ubiquitous which means anytime, anywhere, any pace and anyone (A⁴). According to the Manaiakalani Pedagogy and Kaupapa, if there is an access to a device and wifi, the learners have the potential to be connected to high quality learning experiences at anywhere, anytime and any pace.
Ubiquitous carries the idea that learning takes places outside of the traditional school/classroom in the digital era and there are no barriers where the child can do the learning anywhere, any time and any place. Offering Ubiquitous learning opportunities gives kids more hours to continue learning. Digital technologies have the ability to positively change circumstances and should not be dismissed as ‘just’ a tool. The Manaiakalani programme has embraced rewindable learning in 2020. Rewindable learning makes learning accessible to more learners and enabling young people to visit it over and over again.
Using Explain Everything (EE) on ipad has really improved my confidence as my students use this device (ipad) and I could see how unfamiliar I was with the device.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
This week we focussed on the importance of making teaching and learning visible, accessible and available to both the learners, teachers and the wider community (whanau). This visibility contributes to a strong partnership with whanau. Having the teaching visible to our colleagues is a great way to learn from each other and share our ideas. Visible learning will lead to effective teaching and accelerated learning.
Google sites has been considered as the best tool for visible teaching and learning. The most effective teachers use Learn - Create - Share pedagogy and their use of class sites to make teaching and learning visible further supported students agency. The Manaiakalani design which includes the partnership has been the major contributor of the acceleration. Blogger is also another great site to make individual teaching and learning visible. Manaiakalani programme ensures that success is available to everyone.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
I might relook at my class site and add some more complementary texts related to their main text. Encourage the students to use the class site frequently and link the texts to their personal life.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
I'll try to create multimodal sites for reading so it could help me later. Labelling the blogs is also very helpful.

Day 4 Reflections
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
This week we looked at the sharing part of the Pedagogy. Sharing is all about making connections. During Lockdown, in just one month about 30,000 pieces of learning and posts were shared across the country. Last year's research data also showed that Manaiakalani students showed a progress in writing and it raised the achievement outcome. People have been sharing using a variety of social media. Sharing since the time began was done with one another, the school, the local community and now in digital age, sharing is done globally.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Creating a google form after completing a strand in Maths or inquiry would be a great help to help students understanding.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners, how could they use
Google my maps - My students are already using google my maps to connect to other schools (other students) but maybe I can teach them in detail how to add a layer or direction or change the base map.
A the moment my learning are reading other students blog post and the comments so Quality blog comments could be helpful when they get to comment to other students blog posts.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
I learned how to use google drawing and I would definitely try it with my learners. Set that as an activity to use shapes and draw something. I also enjoyed doing animation which I am looking forward to try with my learners.
